DAY 1 - Quarantine Antics

Monday morning’s workout was thwarted with news of COVID exposure and a rush to the long lines of test centers. Good thing we maintain a constant level of health and fitness that allows us to adapt and succeed in any of life’s possible curve balls…amirite?!

That being said, I had to close the school for quarantine and left to my own devises for inspiration and motivation (you probably don’t realize that it is the students that drive the Masters).

I used this time to dust off old equipment, take inventory on what I have collected over the years of training, competing, and most recently rehabilitating. How much exercise equipment do you have in your home collecting dust or holding clothes?

One great one is the BOSU BALL!

I used to think it was for Yoga folks and the “AS SEEN ON TV” crowd…. we used to just use it as a “trampoline” or spring board.

Then I had an achilles surgery and had to use it for rehab. WOW …tough stuff. Soon as I was walking normal again I haven’t touched it.

So, RUDE AWAKENING when I got on it again! Let’s just say it was too embarrassing for video so enjoy some screen shots, and if you have one, I am happy to BOSU along with you ;)

Started with Jogging on top of the ball to get acquainted with the surface.

Then switched up to single leg hops : 1 min each side.

Just balancing on one foot for a minute was challenging enough.

Seriously sweating as I tried to focus on my core and all the tiny bones in my feet. I did this for like 10 min until I actually succeeded.

I remember doing forms and “crane” kicks on beach stumps or rocks a la “Karate Kid” — never thought it was dangerous until now ;)

Finished off with good ol’ pushups and planks so I feel like I’m getting stronger and not just clumsy from falling off the ball so many times.

Pro Tip: End with something that gives you confidence so you are pumped to get back at it sooner than later.
