Master JR Ocampo

Master Virgilio Ocampo began his martial arts career as a fun, after school activity like many kids today. Born in the Philippines, he grew up in a US military family moving around the world from the Philippines to Guam, to Japan and eventually California.

While his father was still on active duty, Master Ocampo started different martial arts schools but could never advance at any of them due to constant relocating. It wasn't until he moved to California where he started taekwondo under Master Tim Stolsig and his two sons, Master Eddie Stolsig and Mr. Josh Stolsig, at Grand Master Shin's satellite studio on the Pt. Mugu Naval base in 1998. It was here that he finally earned his first degree black belt.

Master Ocampo also trained in the Filipino Martial Arts of Arnis with his uncle during summer trips to the Philippines throughout high school and college until his uncle's passing.

After earning his Bachelor's degree in Business from CSU Channel Islands and still had a strong passion for taekwondo. He contacted Master Eddie Stolsig who was now the head instructor of Tae Ryong Thousand Oaks. After reconnecting with his Tae Ryong roots, it was clear that instructing was Master Ocampo's true passion.

He is now a 5th degree black belt working alongside Master Stolsig at Tae Ryong Thousand Oaks where he sees his journey reflected in the eyes of his students who started just like he did.
